WorldView

Terms of Service

Last updated: 29 March 2025

1. What WorldView is

WorldView is a platform that connects scientists and engineers in the United Kingdom over shared ideas ("hunches") about how the world is changing. By creating an account, you agree to these terms.

2. Eligibility

To use WorldView, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a scientist, engineer, researcher, or technologist (or working in a closely related field)
  • Provide accurate information when creating your account

We encourage — but do not require — you to sign up with a university or institutional email address (.ac.uk or .edu). Using an academic email gives your profile a "Verified" badge, which helps build trust within the community.

3. Your account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password. WorldView cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage from your failure to maintain the security of your account.

You may not use another person's account. You must notify us immediately if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account.

4. Your content

"Your content" means the hunches, messages, profile information, and any other material you submit to WorldView.

You retain ownership of your content. By posting it on WorldView, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to:

  • Display your hunches to other authenticated users on the platform
  • Generate mathematical embeddings of your hunch text for the purpose of semantic matching
  • Share your profile details with users you choose to connect with

This licence exists only for the purpose of operating the platform. We will never sell your content, use it for advertising, or share it outside the context described above. The licence ends when you delete your content or your account.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use WorldView to recruit, solicit, or send unsolicited commercial messages to other users
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with an institution
  • Post content that is defamatory, harassing, threatening, or discriminatory
  • Post content that infringes on the intellectual property rights of others
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts, data, or private profile information
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access the platform or collect data
  • Interfere with the security, integrity, or performance of the platform
  • Use the platform for any purpose that violates applicable law

WorldView is built for genuine scientific and engineering connection. We reserve the right to remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or undermine the purpose of the platform.

6. How connections work

When you send a connection request, you choose what to share (LinkedIn profile, email address, or both). The recipient sees your message and what you've shared. If they accept, the same details are automatically shared back to you.

This exchange is by design — it ensures every connection is symmetric. By sending a connection request with sharing enabled, you consent to the recipient receiving those details if they accept. By accepting a request, you consent to the requester receiving the same category of details.

7. Privacy

Your use of WorldView is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal data. Please read it carefully.

8. Intellectual property

WorldView and its original content (excluding user-submitted content), features, and functionality are owned by WorldView and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

The WorldView name, logo, and all related names, logos, product and service names, designs, and slogans are trademarks of WorldView. You may not use these marks without our prior written permission.

9. Third-party services

WorldView integrates with third-party services including LinkedIn (for authentication), OpenAI (for hunch matching), and Supabase (for data storage). Your use of these services through WorldView is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of these third parties.

10. Disclaimers

WorldView is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that:

  • The service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free
  • The matching algorithm will produce relevant or accurate results
  • Any information provided by other users is accurate, complete, or truthful

You use the platform at your own risk. We are not responsible for the conduct of any user, whether online or offline.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, WorldView shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from:

  • Your access to or use of (or inability to use) the service
  • Any conduct or content of any third party on the service
  • Unauthorised access, use, or alteration of your content or data

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

12. Termination

You may stop using WorldView at any time. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing privacy@worldview.uk.

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if we reasonably believe you have violated these terms. Where possible, we will provide notice before doing so.

13. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by placing a notice on the site. Your continued use of WorldView after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of WorldView shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

15. Contact

If you have any questions about these terms, please contact us at hello@worldview.uk.
